New members wanted for the HFEA’s Patient Engagement Forum

Established in 2021, the forum is a pool of people - including patients, partners/co-parents, surrogates and intended parents – who share their views and experiences on certain fertility-related topics.

We are looking for new members to help to shape the fertility sector, who will have the opportunity to create content, review new information for other patients, and provide feedback on our website content before it goes live.

Since the forum was set up, PEF members have participated in a wide range of activities, including:

• Shaping the new HFEA dashboard
• Testing the National Patient Survey
• Sharing ideas for fertility law reform
• Shaping the HFEA’s updated treatment add-ons rating system
• Contributing content for the HFEA’s blog and social media channels

Julia Chain, Chair of the HFEA, said: “We know that people’s experiences of fertility treatment differ based on their individual circumstances, and it’s crucial that this is considered as part of our work. That is why we established the PEF in 2021 – to inform what we do, complement our Patient Organisation Stakeholder Group (POSG), and give you a voice.

“A key element of our work is to provide free, clear, and impartial information about the various types of fertility treatment available at UK clinics, and our current members have played an important role in supporting this.

“I want to thank them for everything they’ve done over the last two years and look forward to welcoming our next group of members in January 2027.”

About the Patient Engagement Forum:

There is eligibility criteria that patients, partners/co-parents, surrogates and intended parents need to meet to join the forum. This is to ensure that the views, experiences and feedback we receive is representative of the current fertility sector.

Members will need to have had fertility treatment in the UK, and currently be one of the following:

• Planning to undergo, or considering, treatment in the next three months
• Currently in treatment
• Have had treatment in the last two years

Members of the forum serve a three-year term, from January 2027 and end in December 2029.
